WATER ATOMIZED POWDERS
One way to improve product performance is to achieve higher density levels in Powder Metal structural parts. For this reason, the production of Copper (Cu) and Copper (Cu) alloy powders by the water atomization method is increasing day by day. Atomization occurs when a high-energy liquid or gas breaks up molten metal.
Water atomized copper powders have irregular particle shapes and therefore have good raw strength. The powder particles are free of internal porosity and have superior compressibility, especially due to the improvement of the annealing process in hot pressing.
Water atomized powders are therefore the preferred material where high raw density is sought in Powder Metal structural parts.

GAS ATOMIZED POWDERS
Metal and non-metal powders are produced in various ways. The most important of these is the gas atomization process, in which an inert gas is used as the atomization fluid.
Protective atmosphere gas is used in gas atomizers and nitrogen, argon or helium is used for atomization. The powders produced are regular spherical but do not contain pores. When the production parameters are well optimized, the oxygen content is below 100 ppm.
Spherical powders are particularly useful in hot and cold isostatic pressing, where raw strength is not an issue but the packing density of the powder in the container is important.
